Moisturize your skin the night before applying fresh self-tanner. The number one rule of applying self-tanner: exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate. Did I mention, exfoliate? Using a loofah and a body scrub, wash away any previous tanning product and dead skin. This way, the new product will adhere to fresh skin.
Before applying self-tanner, make sure you moisturize rougher areas such as hands, elbows, knees, and ankles so that these areas don’t become darker than the rest of your body.
Next, apply the self-tanner liberally to your body and face. A mitt comes in handy for applying the tanner evenly on your body, but I use my hands for applying to my face. It’s best to use long, even strokes to avoid streakiness.
After applying, wash your hands to keep your palms from tanning---a dead giveaway of a fake tan.
Reapply the tanner to thet backs of your hands if needed. Allow to develop for 4-6 hours or overnight.
After showering, moisturize again and continue to do so daily for the best result. As always, apply sunscreen daily!
